Jackson’s opus is haunting and deeply moving.” -Ghettoblaster
“Sounds of crashing waves and a robust feel brought on by reverb in the vocals brings this track into ballad territory, and we are all about it.”-Imperfect Fifth
Singer, songwriter, producer and actress Emily Jackson releases her first single “Oh Mother” via Ghettoblaster Magazine.
The song, whose haunting and emotional vocals fit for a movie soundtrack began as a letter to her own mother that grew into an open letter to the world, as she realized: How much can parents really warn us about the harsh realities of sexism, racism and everything else in our troubling times? “There are so many things we can be angry at our parents for, but many of those things they never could have prepared us for even if they wanted to,” Jackson explains.
After leaving a label contract as a teen, “Oh Mother” marks Emily’s return to the music industry after a 10 year hiatus. During that time, Emily moved to California where she studied acting at the prestigious CalArts School of Theater. Her flourishing acting career has landed her lead roles in movies like Incarnate opposite Aaron Eckhart and Carice van Houten and she can also be seen in the upcoming season of House of Cards.
Ultimately, it was Emily’s move back east to New York City where she found herself surrounded by an energy that kept leading her back to music, “Oh Mother” being the song that re-opened the floodgates to her longtime love of songwriting.
Preparing for the forthcoming 2019 release of her EP, you can catch Emily live at her upcoming single release show on October 6th, at Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2.
